Mise En Scene

Open your music video and pause it within the one minute that you will recreate. Choose a medium shot or wide shot of your talent (musician) – not a close up.

Capture a screenshot. You can use the Snipping Tool in the Programs > Accessories folder.

Answer the following questions about the Mise-en-Scène with short answers; post your answers as a new project on Portfolium.

  1. What is visually dominant in the scene?
    – The visual dominance of this scene is the windows since there is light coming through the windows. As well as the person standing to the right of the scene.
  2. What type of lighting is used in the scene: High Key or Low Key; and is it Hard High Contrast Light or Soft Low Contrast Light?
    – The type of lighting in this image is very average. Since there is dark places in the image as well as a very bright portion on the opposite side. But the lighting is not focused on the guy to the right.
  3. What type of framing is used to show your subject in the frame: Extreme Long Shot, Long Shot, Full Shot, Medium Shot, Close-up, or Extreme Close-up?
    –  The framing of this scene is a very long shot vls.
  4. What camera angle is used: Bird’s Eye View, high Angle, Eye-Level, or Low Angle? Is the shot also at an Oblique Angle?
    – The camera angle being used is an eye-level angle. This shot is not an oblique angle.
  5. What is the overall color palette in the scene? -The color palette in this scene are black, white, grey and a little bit of color.

6. What type of lens and Film Stock do you think was used: Was it a wide-angle lens (like a GoPro) or a Telephoto lens? Was a fast film stock used (better for dark scenes or fast subjects) or a slow film stock probably used (better for bright scenes or slow / stationary subjects).
– The type of lens i believe were used were Telephoto lens. Since its a shot in which a picture of a whole room is being taken. I believe a little of both fast film stock and slow film stock were used to take this photo. Since the photo has both bright and dark colors.

7. What is the second most dominant thing in the scene?
– The second most dominant thing in this scene is the guy standing to the right since it is were your eyes get drawn too.

8. Is your scene densely composed, or minimalistic?
-This scene is very minimalistic since it is only showing a guy top the right inside an abandoned place.

9. What type of composition is used, is it primarily vertical, horizontal, or diagonal? Was a triangular or circular composition used?

-The composition that is being used is horizontal.

10. Is the scene formally arranged, or is it more naturally composed?
– The scene looks like it is more formally arranged since the guy is standing to the right as well as all of his belongings are on that side as well.

11. Are your musicians compressed within the space, or do they have open room to move around in?-

-The musician has open spaces in which he is able to move around.

12. Is a Shallow Depth of Field used (the background is blurred) or a Deep Depth of Field used (everything, including far off mountains, is in focus)?
– Everything in this scene is in a deep depth of field since everything is in focus.

13. Where in the frame is the musician placed: Top, Bottom, Far Left, Far Right, Centered, or Slightly Off Center?
– The musician is placed in the right side of this scene while he is looking outside of a window.

14. Where is your musician looking: at the camera, near the camera, at another character, off screen?
– The musician is looking off the screen at something else that the viewer is not able to see.

15. What is the distance between your musicians: intimate, personal, social, public?

-The distance amongst other things in the music video are very close to the musician. Since there isn’t other musicians.
